Dexter Gordon was one of the giants of the tenor saxophone, an emblematic figure of bebop and hard bop, with a full, warm, and instantly recognisable sound. His elegant phrasing and charisma made him one of the most important musicians in the history of jazz and an absolute benchmark for his instrument.
