Coming from a family of world-class musicians (son of Alex Sipiagin, grandson of Lew Tabackin, Toshiko Akiyoshi and Charlie Mariano), the young New York-born saxophonist Nikita Sipiagin, now based in Basel and winner of the Mingus Best Soloist Award, boasts an impressive academic background and a wealth of collaborations: all of which confirm a talent honed from a very young age and one that continues to push new boundaries.
A winner of several competitions, he is not only a gifted composer but also a particularly impressive soloist. Surrounded by some of the most promising talents of the younger generation, he will be giving his debut concert at Toots — an event you certainly won’t want to miss.
