Saul Rubin (guitar) ; Armando Luongo (drums) ; TBA (piano) ; TAB (bass)
Although his name may not be familiar to the general public in Europe, Saul “Zebulon” Rubin is a true legend of the New York jazz scene. As an arranger for Roy Hargrove, with whom he toured for years, and a long-standing collaborator of Sonny Rollins, this speaks volumes about his talent as a sideman and the calibre of this guitarist. Beyond these two giants, he has collaborated with a countless number of major figures in jazz and has performed in the most prestigious clubs and venues across the globe.
A key figure in New York’s jazz community (he notably founded and ran ‘Zeb’s’, a renowned venue for creativity and performance, from 2009 to 2016), he is always keen to play with newcomers and to take on the role of an old-school mentor.
It was during various trips to New York that Armando Luongo had the opportunity to play with Saul. The Italian drummer, a mainstay of the Brussels jazz scene for many years, is therefore taking advantage of the guitarist’s visit to invite him to join him for a special quartet concert at Toots.
A rare opportunity to see a true guardian of the New York jazz scene in the intimate setting of our Brussels club!
